UNKNOWN CASTLE

I received E-Mail that said:

There is a castle in Washington State by Bob Nippolt. Nippolt's castle is roughly seven miles from the mouth of the White Salmon River, close to the Columbia Gorge, which is the border between Oregon and Washington State. Nippolt began the 4800 square foot castle in 1988. It's four floors high, 65 feet tall.

The castle that you have listed as being in the Columbia River Gorge sounds like it may be this one...

The castle may be the MARYHILL CASTLE built by SAM HILL long ago..around turn of the century perhaps? It is an ART MUSEUM open to the public and boasts the largest collection of Rodin's work in the country.

(There is no Nippolt Castle)

In 1907, Hill purchased 6,000 acres of land along the Columbia River with the hope of establishing a Quaker farmingcommunity. He formed the Maryhill Land Company, named after his daughter, and set about building a town. The village included a store and post office, a Quaker church, an inn, a blacksmith's shop and a stable. In 1914, work began on a hilltop mansion that was to be Hill's home, but the remote location of Maryhill and the lack of irrigation proved insurmountable obstacles and the land company failed. Construction of Hill's mansion stopped in 1917. This guy is right. I have been there. Really remote place. You would never know it's there until you get a few hundred feet from it, or drifted down the river. I can't verify the name, but the time frame sounds about right. It was for sale in the late 90's for like $500,000. My parents Realtor showed it to us when they were looking for houses in that area. It is in Husum, WA.

It is this one... http://web.archive.org/web/20070111093616/www.gorgecastle.com/index.htm

It is NOT the Maryhill castle. that is about 50 miles east from this one. Here is the Maryhill Castle, in Maryhill, WA.
