I have a question. I am looking for a Castle named "Ross Castle" that is said to be on Staten Island NY. Have you ever heard of it? I am looking for information on this Castle.
Later, I received E-Mail that said:
It is the Ross House not Castle. Look for it at the very end of Hylan Blvd., then turn right either at the last or next to last street. The house was built almost two centuries ago. Pretty cool it's still standing and in good condition, not to mention a real jem of a story about the house.

I'm writing in response to the person looking for info on Ross castle on Staten Island. I'm a Staten Island resident. Hylan Blvd runs across the entire island, and there is a historic house at each end. At one end is the Alice Austin house, a dutch farmhouse built around 1700. At the other end is the Conference House, also called the Manor of Bentley, which was built around 1680. It's a stone, medieval style house that overlooks the Raritan Bay. The Conference House has an incredible history, and there are a few ghost stories connected to the house. I'll continue to look for info on Ross Castle. If anyone knows anything about it, let me know.

I've been searching for a while, and I think it's safe to assume that if there was a Ross castle on Staten Island, then it's either no longer standing, or it's a really private home. I say this because the island isn't very large, and any historic building, whether famous or not, is listed with the historical society. I have not found any building called Ross castle, however there is a section of the island called Rossville, so it is possible that it could have existed a one time.

THE CASTLE BELONGS TO WILLIAM E. ROSS WHO HAD BUILT IT AS A REPLICA OF THE WINSOR CASTLE. I FOUND THIS INFORMATION BY TYPING IN ROSSVILLE, STATEN ISLAND. THE OTHER THING I COULD THINK OF IS IT MENTION ARTHUR KILL,THERE IS A RD. CALLED ARTHUR KILL AND I HAVE SEEN A REALLY BIG HOUSE ON TOP OF A HILL OVER LOOKING ARTHUR KILL RD. IT COULD BE THAT ONE . IF YOUR DRIVING TOWARDS THE DIRECTION OF TOTTENVILLE ON ART.KILL YOU WILL PASS A MOTOCYCLE SHOP ON YOUR LEFT A LITTLE FUTHER DOWN YOU WILL SEE IT AT THE CONER OF THE SHARP TURN THE HOUSE IS ALL IN WHITE I DONT KNOW IF IT IS CONSIDER A CASTLE.

The large house that you mention on top of a hill on arthur kill rd (on staten island) was the The Kreischer Mansion. Kreischer was a huge brick maker in the 1800s. I grew up in the area so always passed it. They recently renovated in and it seems they're overdeveloping the area around it, so it takes a little bit away from the view.

I grew up across Arthur Kill from Staten Island, so I got curious about Ross Castle and chased it down. The internet archive has a public domain PDF of "Staten Island, A Guide Book (1891)" available. This mentions Ross Castle on pp 54 and 55.
"Rossville is on the West Shore, fronting on the Arthur Kills or Staten Island Sound. Rossville has no particular place in history. It is a pleasant village, decidedly out of the way of the tide of progress, and for that reason much loved by many of its residents. The old Ross House, or " Ross Castle," is one of the oldest houses on the Island, and is still standing in good condition."
The wiki article on Rossville, NY states
"By the 1830s the area was renamed Rossville after Colonel William E. Ross, who had built a replica of Windsor Castle (originally known as Ross Castle, later known as Lyon Castle) on a bluff overlooking the landing of the Blazing Star Ferry."
The wiki footnotes contain a link to a picture postcard of Lyon Castle.

The ferry landing is shown on this map
I have historic aerial photography for the area back to 1931 and there is no trace of the castle at the ferry landing in any of the images.

I was just looking up the history of the Ross Castle later named Lyon Castle on Staten Island. In an article from the Staten island advance it states it was demolished in the 1920's due to disrepair. I hope this info will help in some way.
Does anyone have more information about it?
