This past weekend my family made a trip from Dallas, Tx to Abilene, TX. On I-20 approx. 1.5 hours west of Dallas, at the Mingus-Thurber exit, there is a very large castle on the South side of the highway approx 1/4 mile off the highway. The castle is very large (200 yds square maybe?) and has 4 corner turrets ?? on each corner. The turrets (???) are classic in design in that they have the square cutouts around the tops of each. The castle itself is grey and sits high on a hill in a heavily wooded area. I was told that currently the castle is being used as a hunting lodge for exotic game.
Later, I received more E-Mail that said:
I was tooling through castles on the Net looking for a location to hold
my renaissance wedding in March and stumbled on your page. I took what
information was available and began my quest. I set out to locate this
castle on I-20.
The name of the castle is, "Greystone Castle Sporting Club", and it is in Mingus, Texas at I-20 and Exit 367 (Thurber/Mingus exit). Thurber no longer exists, it was an old Coal Mining town.
The castle has four wings, two are common areas and two are rooms. There are a total of ten (10) rooms to reserve. They have great rates for renting the castle and rooms. Give Jana Scrivner a call, she is great at painting a visual picture of the place. They are open Tuesday through Sunday, 9-5 p.m.
Their address is
P.O. Box 158
Mingus, Tx. 76463
phone (254) 672-5927,
(800) 399-3006, fax (254) 672-5971
Directions are (from DFW Airport): Exit South out of the Airport
Get on 183-Airport Freeway going West
To 820 West approximately 25 miles
Exit I-20 West (Weatherford exit)
They are approximately 35 miles West of Weatherford
Get off at Thurber (Exit 367)
Turn left under the underpass to head eastbound on the access road
Castle Arms gun shop is on the right
Go approximately 1/4 mile past gun shop turn right into
the main gate (follow the road to the left)
P.S.
We have reserved the castle for the wedding and are completely thrilled
we found the perfect setting, thanks to your page. Many, many, many
thanks for your hard work!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a happy, fairy tale ending here.

I received E-Mail that said:
Greystone Castle is on the market now at a meager price of $9 million. This does include the 4000 acres that it sits on.
Later, I received E-Mail with the web address of the realtor who has the castle listed for sale:
