This is a photo of Cliffwalk Castle at Newport, Rhode Island.
Does anyone have more information? Does this building still exist?
Later, I received E-Mail that said:
The answer is no it no longer exists-the castle was demolished some time ago.
On 4-11-05, I received E-Mail that said:
Images of America Series book of Newport relates:Called "The Breakwater". More commonly known as "Lippetts Castle", this structure was built in 1899 at the end of Ledge Road by Charles Lippett, who made his fortune from the cotton industry. Lippett was also governor of RI from 1895-97. The castle was demolished in 1925 to build a residence for architect, jOHN Russell Pope, called "The Waves", a shingle style mansion., now a 10 unit condo. The retaining wall still stands.
On 6-30-05, I received E-Mail that said:
I have read that Gov. Lippetts Castle burned in 1927 and was bulldozed into the ocean.
